Life in the Golden City (restoration)

Life in the golden city

I had the opportunity to restore my 2014 Utility cabinet mural design in June of 2021. This design features 4 Historical downtown Santa Ana sites; The Santa Ana water tower, The old Orange County Courthouse, The Santora building and The W.H.Spurgeon building. Thank you city of Santa Ana for allowing me to lay another coat of paint to this corner. You can see this mural on the corner of Main St. and La Cuatro, that’s Fourth Street for those non Santa Ana natives.

Cara a Cara/Face a Face

Community Art Project - August 2019

This Community art project allowed anyone of any age and skill level an opportunity to share a moment with someone using a simple & fun art exercise. Participants would stand on either side of a transparent panel and take turns tracing eachother’’s face, through this process people could focus-in on the details of their partners facial features and recognize the ways in which we are different but more importantly, the many ways in which we are alike.

This project was inspired by Pablo Picasso’s glass paintings and conceived in my experience with portrait painting. It is a little known fact that you can learn lots from someone when painting their portrait. They way they smile, the shape of their eyes, etc. I wanted to share this experience but what I wanted more was, for people to come together through art, and what can I say, It was a Hit a total success!

ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

Solo art show - june 2018

In this first solo show, Roger immersed himself in the US workforce and experienced a labor intensive job with a well known uniform company for exactly one year. Interviewing and painting portraits of the folks he met, and accessibly exhibited his work in plain-air in 2018 and then again at the Heritage Museum of Orange County in 2019.

An artists exploration of work and labor in the region. Acrylic portraits of workers and laborers of the Santa Ana area presented in a timeline; starting with a Juañeno female Basket weaver, Ranchero/Ranch-hand, Asian Orange-picker of the early 1900s, African-American local Historian Harriet Tyler, artist’s mother the home-maker, and artist’s father plant nursery worker. The show debut at the DTSA Artwalk, then showcased at The Heritage Museum, Fourth Element Gallery and had its closing reception at GoodBeer Santa Ana, Ca.
